 National Volunteer Opportunities

National Board of Directors 

The DKA National Board of Directors serves as the governing body responsible for the strategic direction, oversight, and long-term sustainability of the fraternity. DKA is a national, gender-inclusive, professional cinematic society, and its board reflects this mission through diverse leadership and a commitment to creative and ethical excellence. The National Board is elected every 2 years at Convention. If a position becomes available between Conventions, the current National Board can appoint a DKA member to the Board.

    • Serve as chairs for committees, provide subject matter expertise, act as ambassadors for DKA, monitor organizational progress, offers mentorship to chapter leaders, and more.

 


National Committee Volunteer Opportunities

Committee Members are appointed by the National Board of Directors as needed.

National Events Planning Committee

  • National Events Coordinator
    • Works alongside Director of Chapter Services (staff) to plan Convention & Conclave
  • Executives Academy Coordinator
    • Works alongside Director of Chapter Services (staff) to plan Executives Academy
  • Regional Alumni Directors (2)
    • Focused on hosting Founders Day and other regional events in LA & NYC

DEI Education Committee

  • Support creation of equity resources
  • Act as a liaison between local chapter DEI Chairs & National Board

Education Resource Review Committee

  • Review existing educational materials for accuracy, relevance, inclusivity, and effectiveness

Marketing & Communications Committee

  • Social Media support for national organization including creation of content, marketing posts, etc.

Philanthropy Committee

  • Supports DKA with our partnerships with the Motion Picture Entertainment Fund

Other Potential Committee Opportunities:

The National Board is open to creating the following committees based on interest and need.

  • Interchapter Connections Committee
    • Facilitate interactions between chapters/ opportunities to create community in specific regions
  • Cinematic Affairs & Industry Education Committee
    • Foster partnerships in the industry with organizations of similar values, researching film industry resources for members, create events and opportunities for industry education 
    • Develop and coordinate initiatives such as film festivals and creative challenges (e.g., a 24-hour film competition), establish strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Adobe and other platforms commonly used by both active members and alumni, and organize engaging events including script table reads and collaborative media showcases.
  • Philanthropy Committee
    • Support DKA with our partnerships with the Motion Picture Entertainment Fund


 

Chapter Level Volunteer Opportunities

Board of Governors for a Chapter

The BOG as we envision it today is a group of alumni that are involved in advisory proceedings with chapter leadership. Today's founding BOG at a chapter should consist of at least two members to begin with, and ultimately our goal is to see our BOGs compromised of the following positions, all filled by Graduate Council member unless otherwise indicated, according to the DKA Constitution:

  1. Board of Governors Chairperson
  2. Chapter Advisor (Graduate Council member selected by the Resident Council)
  3. Board of Governors Secretary ( position filled by the President of the Resident Council)
  4. Alumni Advisor
  5. Financial Advisor
  6. Recruitment Advisor
  7. Risk Management Advisor
  8. Scholarship Advisor
  9. Professional Advisor

The tasks of the Board of Governors include but are not limited to:

  • At least ten meetings shall be held each year and official meeting minutes must be recorded and filed
  • Approve the selection of the Administrative/Faculty Advisor to the chapter
  • Serves to assist the Standards board in chapter tribunal cases and informs National Council/faculty advisor on cases as needed
  • Have a clear understanding and familiarity with DKA mission, creed, and ritual
  • Have a clear understanding and familiarity with the chapter's governing documents 
  • and more
